Griswold — A Griswold man faces sexual assault charges after a 15-year-old girl disclosed to counselors at Griswold High School that a man allegedly had touched her inappropriately in a sexual manner in two separate incidents despite her objections.

Dennis J. Woodworth, 53, of 15 Edward Ave., Griswold, was charged with risk of injury to a child, third-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree sexual assault. He was held on a $200,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear July 7 in Norwich Superior Court.

Police said Woodworth was located at his home at 1:10 p.m. Monday and arrested on a warrant stemming from the March 7 disclosure by the victim. Police said Woodworth is known to the victim, and the incidents allegedly occurred at his home.

Woodworth had been convicted in 1994 of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury or impairing morals of children.

According to the affidavit, the girl had told a social worker that Woodworth had touched her inappropriately. The social worker called police and reported the incident to the state Department of Children and Families.

State Trooper Christopher Brett wrote in the affidavit that the victim took part in a forensic interview at the New London Children’s Advocacy Center and disclosed details of the alleged sexual contact by Woodworth. School officials and interviewers told police the girl’s claims remained consistent.

Brett reported that Woodworth’s attorney informed police that Woodworth would not make a statement in the investigation.
