    My Pet Pal: Yoda

Both my husband and I grew up in families that had dogs. Our families lived only a few houses apart, and our dogs – mine, a cocker spaniel we named Muffin, and his, a “Heinz 57’ named Ephraim – were about the same size, and were fast friends.

In 1967, we followed our dogs’ lead and became more than just neighbors. We got married, and after the wedding rings, the next gift we gave ourselves was a black Labrador dog we named Kahlua (because she was a sweet ‘licker’).

We’ve had dogs all our married life, except for the four years when the Air Force took us to Germany. But upon our return to the U.S.A., the first thing we did was to find a new furry friend. We chose a pound puppy, a caramel colored mutt who just stole our hearts. She has been a joy ever since. She sleeps on our bed, between our knees, making sure we’re warm AND protected!

We named her 'Yoda' because her ears stick straight out from both sides of her head – so her name was a no-brainer. She has been a welcome addition to our family, and a great help to keeping us healthy, requiring several walks each day, when she also requires that BOTH of us participate in The Walk. It’s as if our DOG is a reflection of our GOD, since both of them want the best for us and expect the best from us. We are grateful for both.
