Free health screenings, produce vouchers to be offered at Norwich farmers market

Norwich — The Hartford Healthcare RX for Health program will have a table at the Norwich farmers market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Howard T. Brown Memorial Park, offering free diabetes and blood pressure screenings and fresh produce vouchers to residents in need.

The program provides services to people at risk of obesity and food insecurity. The vouchers will be good for the purchase of fresh produce from farms at the Brown Park farmers market, 100 Chelsea Harbor Drive, or at the S&A Market, 16 Franklin St. in downtown Norwich or Shop Rite Supermarket, 634 W. Main St.

The Community Health Department at Backus Hospital will offer the free health screenings and educational pamphlets on healthy eating. A nutritionist will be at the farmers market to answer questions about healthy eating.
