Waterford to conduct emergency services exercise on Wednesday

Waterford ― Emergency services organizations here will conduct a training exercise at Quaker Hill Elementary School on Wednesday.

Police, the Board of Education, fire departments, ambulance services, the Emergency Management and Dispatch Center and the First Selectman’s Office will all be participating alongside neighboring police departments, hospitals and emergency service agencies.

The exercise will run from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

“The goal of the exercise is to simulate a significant emergency so all organizations involved become familiar with communication protocols and management of the diverse services involved so as to be better prepared to effectively deal with any possible future emergency event,” stated First Selectman Rob Brule in a press release announcing the drill.

According to the press release, the town is notifying the public in advance so residents are aware the event is a drill and not an actual emergency. Signs will be posted before and during the event.

The town “appreciates the cooperation of the public” as the training session will be “most successful if only those actively participating in the exercise are at or near Quaker Hill School,” within the detailed time frame, according to the press release.
