    Norwich Memories: Broadway

    Broadway, circa 1900

Broadway, circa 1900. Looking north towards City Hall, on the left are two buildings no longer standing. The empty lot is presently being transformed into the new Jubilee Park, with the fabulous mural already painted on the side of Castle Church. Next is the former HOTEL DEL-HOFF, vacant now, but soon to be rehabbed. Next is Craftsman Cliff's Coffee House, then Reliance House, followed by Norwich Arts Center. The tall building was the first Norwich YMCA. It later became Gilman's Furniture until it burned down in the 1960s.

Ken Keeley is the author of 13 pictorial books of Norwich history. Look for his newest book, "The History of the Norwich Little League and Farm System, 1950-1975," due out next month. His books are available at the Backus Gift Shop and La Stella's Italian Bakery and Market in Taftville.
