Annie Seltzer, Waterford High School Class of 2022, has been announced as the first recipient of the first Dan Steward Scholarship Award.

Annie will be attending the University of Virginia majoring in biology or environmental engineering this fall.

“In the future I hope to use my education to help combat climate change. This award will go a long way towards helping my family afford college. Thank you again,” Seltzer said. “I am honored to win this award and I hope I am able to help carry on Mr. Steward’s legacy in the future. He was an incredible man who did so much for the town of Waterford throughout his life. It is an honor to receive this award in his name.”

Steward served as Waterford's first selectman from 2005 until 2019, the town’s longest-serving first selectman. He died in October 2021 at 71 years old.
