Saint Bernard prepares for robotics’ competition

Freshman George Kowalyshyn, left, and Junior Ben Muckian work on fixing a robot as students from Saint Bernard School prepare for a robotics competition at the high school in Uncasville Wednesday, October 26, 2022. This is the first year the school has become involved in the program, which is overseen by Technology Coordinator and Computer Science Teacher Ann Marie Jakubielski. She said the school had been talking about starting a program for more than a year but this summer the right combination of students and funding came together to get it started. The student-led group of nine was funded by grants from Mohegan Sun and Montville Education Foundation. Two teams from the school will compete in a VEX Robotics competition in West Haven this weekend. The competition features engineering challenges to be completed by the robots which students build and program. (Sarah Gordon/The Day)
