    Charter Oak and members give $400,000 to 281 charitable organizations

    Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s 2022 Matching Gifts Program has donated a a total of $400,000 from the credit union and members to 281 charitable organizations, it announced last week.

    Last year it donated the same amount to 277 organizations.

    The program, founded in 2016, starts in August each year and matches all qualified donations members make to 501(c)(3) charities, Charter Oak said in a press release. The credit union matched more than 800 donations from members this year.

    Beneficiaries include Care and Share of East Lyme, Friends of Chikumbuso, Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation and Wheeler Library.

    President and CEO Brian Orenstein said in the press release that Charter Oak started the program this year with $200,000, up from a starting match of $100,000 last year, and members met the match in a record 70 days.
