East Lyme ― The York Correctional Institution in Niantic was placed on lock-down status Friday afternoon due to contraband being found inside an inmate’s cell.

State Police were contacted and are investigating the matter, according to the the Department of Correction’s public information officer.

Representatives from the correction department’s Security Division are also onsite.

No further details are being released at this time.
