Connecticut Port Authority receives award for state pier

New London ― Environmental Business Journal, an independent business research publication, has honored the Connecticut Port Authority with a Business Achievement Award in the category for Offshore Wind Infrastructure.

The CPA was recognized for its transformation of State Pier Terminal in the city into a “world-class, heavy-lift-capable, climate-resilient marine terminal” — the first in North America to accommodate assembly, staging, and load out of massive offshore wind components as well as other maritime cargo, according to a news release.

Once installed offshore, the turbines will stand taller than the Statue of Liberty.

Ulysses Hammond, executive director of the Connecticut Port Authority, said in the release the award acknowledges the position of State Pier at the forefront of the nation’s offshore wind energy industry.

He said the project “has taken an underutilized state asset and transformed it into a hub for our national and state climate change commitments to sustainable, clean energy.”
