Fundraiser scheduled Sunday for Montville family

East Lyme ― A fundraiser to help a Montville family with expenses related to a bone marrow transplant for a three-year-old girl is scheduled for Sunday at the VFT recreation center.

The event will be held from 12 to 6 p.m. at the business, which is located at 15 Industrial Park Road in Niantic.

The Atizol family’s three-year-old daughter, Catalina, was diagnosed in 2021with CTLA-4 Haploinsufficiency, a rare genetic immune system disease that can cause permanent organ damage, autoimmune disease, cancer, and severe infections.

The funds raised will be used to help Catalina and her mother, Jayne, who will need to move to Boston for several months to be close to the transplant team at Boston Children's Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Center. Catalina will eventually receive continued care at the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale.

Those who are interested in participating or donating are asked to call the VFT at (860) 800-2770.
