Gold Star Pizza wins pizza contest at Thrive 55+ Active Living Center

Groton ― Gold Star Pizza was voted number one at a pizza contest held last week at the Thrive 55+ Active Living Center, formerly called the Groton Senior Center.

“Thank you to all of our supporters for the support through the many years that we’ve been here,” said Gold Star Pizza manager Heléna Zolotas. “Thanks for helping us celebrate not only our 30 years in business but for voting us number one in our area.”

Kathy Williams, program supervisor at the Thrive 55+ Active Living Center, called the Pizza Contest/Dance Party held last Friday “a huge success.”

“We had over 100 people in attendance,” Williams said.

Williams said the contest was close, as there was a one to two vote difference between all the pizzas: “It was a tough decision for some to make as they were all delicious.”

Williams said 20 pizza restaurants donated a variety of pizza that included barbecue chicken, loaded veggie, maple bacon, cheese, Margherita, special, pepperoni, tomato basil and loaded potato.

Angie’s Pizza, Gino’s Pizza, and Mystic Pizza in Mystic; Domino’s Pizza, Gold Star Pizza, Gus’s Pizza, Midway Pizza, New York Family Pizza, Pano’s Pizza, Pizza Palace, Pizza Today, The Bridge, The Rolling Tomato, and Groton Wings’ n’ Pies in Groton; Fireside Brick Oven in Gales Ferry; Valentino’s in Ledyard; Nana’s Byrek & Pizza in Waterford; Mr G’s, Pizzarama, and Woodfellas in New London donated pizza, according to the list.
