Pick sunflowers to benefit Preston Public Library

Preston ― The owners of Preston Farms hope to turn fields of bright yellow sunflowers into books, computers and children’s programs in a fundraiser this week to benefit the Preston Public Library.

The farm at 92 Route 2, Preston, will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday for people to pick sunflowers, with all proceeds to be donated to Preston Public Library. Sunflowers will be $2 each blossom or a bunch of six for $10, cash only.

The event is sponsored by the Grabarek family, owner of Preston Farms.

Jerry Grabarek said this is the first year he planted sunflowers. He had hoped to do a sunflower maze, but the wind and rain knocked down the stalks. But the flowers have bloomed beautifully, so he decided to offer the flowers as a fundraiser to the library.

Bring your own shears, and Grabarek will provide twine to tie together bouquets.
