    Norwich to host Pearl Harbor Day remembrance ceremony Thursday

    Norwich ― A Pearl Harbor Day remembrance ceremony will be held at 11:55 a.m. Thursday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

    The Norwich Area Veterans Council, the U.S. Naval Submarine Base in Groton and the city of Norwich are co-sponsoring the event, which is open to the public. The ceremony will feature the Navy Silver Dolphins, students at the U.S. Naval Submarine School and crew members of the new submarine, USS Arizona.

    Family members of two Norwich sailors killed on the battleship USS Arizona during the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese are expected to attend. Storekeeper 3rd Class Harry Carlson and Seaman 1st Class Michael Quarto of Norwich were killed in the attack.

    The guest speaker will be Capt. Jason Deichler, deputy commander of Submarine Squadron 12.
