Pizzetta closes its doors in downtown Mystic

Mystic ― Pizzetta, a downtown Mystic pizza restaurant, has closed its doors.

The pizza place, located at 7 Water St., recently posted a message on its Facebook page to its “valued customers and friends, who have become family” saying “Today will be Pizzetta’s last day. We cannot thank you enough for the love and support you have continued to show over the years.”

“While encouraging you to keep the Pizzetta energy alive, focusing on the positive memories and telling stories of the good times that were had by all, we hope that you look forward to the future, and the exciting changes that are to come,” it concluded.

The owners of Pizzetta could not immediately be reached this week.

Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce President Bruce Flax said he thinks it’s sad that Pizzetta, a local favorite, is closing, but he’s excited to see what ends up there.

Deborah Jones, the town’s assistant director of planning and development services, said there are no pending applications for a new use of the building.

Meanwhile, the downtown recently welcomed a new restaurant across the street. Milestone, a restaurant based in Redding, branched out to open a spot at 12 Water St. in November.

“It’s a great addition to downtown ― quality food, great atmosphere,” Flax said.

On its website, Milestone states that it “redefines the notion of a neighborhood gathering spot by combining simply prepared, boldly flavored fare made from scratch and classic cocktails done right with professional, understated service in a stylish yet warm and welcoming setting. Staying true to the best of classic comfort foods, while also offering a wide array of other foodie and healthy options, Milestone is always striving for the perfect bite.”
