New London ― Alexis Star, of New London, hangs his pencil drawing titled “On the Hand of the Lord” with the help of volunteer Susan Struck on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, on opening night of Hygienic Art XLV Salon des Independants.

The exhibition this year is dedicated to artist Barkley L. Hendricks. Hendricks was known for his fashionable portraits of Black people and was one of the founding artists of the Salon des Independants.

The event runs through Feb. 10.
