    Preston grand list up 4.33%

Preston ― One year after a property revaluation, the town grand list showed an overall increase of 4.3%, with a spike in personal property values more than making up for a drop in motor vehicle values.

The overall grand list of taxable property increased by $27.6 million to a combined total of $639.7 million after exemptions were removed from the total, a 4.3% overall increase. Real estate values remained stable, with a 0.18% increase after the 34% increase a year ago following property revaluation.

The town saw a $30.3 million, or a 43.37% increase, in personal property values, offsetting a $3.5 million or 6.1% drop in motor vehicle values. Assessor Adrianna Hedwall said the rise in the personal property this year was due to Eversource/Connecticut Light & Power updating and replacing much of the power distribution equipment in town. The assessed value of Eversource/CL&P’s property doubled from $24.2 million last year to $51.4 million this year, making it the town’s top taxpayer.

    The town’s top 10 taxpayers:

    1. Connecticut Light & Power: $51.4 million.

    2. Covanta SE Connecticut (trash incinerator), $35.5 million.

    3. Julia Tate Holdings LLC (Hilton Garden Inn), $9.59 million.

    4. Strawberry Park Resort Campground, $2.64 million.

    5. Yankee Gas Service Co., $1.86 million.

    6. Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, $1.58 million.

    8. Henry E. Watson, $1.1 million.

    9. William Migliaccio, $1.09 million.

    10. Shane J. Pollack, 1.06 million.
