Pequot Health Care partnering with Root Center to treat mental health, addiction

Mashantucket ― Pequot Health Care will announce a partnership with Root Center for Advanced Recovery, a nonprofit mental health and addiction treatment provider, at an event Monday.

Root Center announced the partnership in November.

Connecticut’s largest methadone provider, Root Center, headquartered in Manchester, treats nearly 6,000 patients daily at more than 10 clinics across the state, including locations in New London and Norwich. As a Pequot Health Care preferred provider, it will serve members of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Family Health Plan and the Mashantucket Pequot Employee Open Plan.

Pequot Health Care, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, provides pharmacy services and health care plans for tribes and other employers.

“We are pleased to welcome Root Center as a partner under the Pequot Health Care umbrella of exceptional care and service," Dr. Setu Vora, the tribe’s chief medical officer, said in a statement. “This partnership serves to expand mental health care and recovery opportunities for our clients, team members, tribal members and other health plan members with dignity and compassion, enhancing the overall quality of life.”

Steven Zuckerman, Root Center’s president and chief executive officer, said the partnership will enable Root Center to reach more people in need of its services in southeastern Connecticut.

Representatives of Pequot Health Care, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council and Root Center, as well as state legislators are expected to attend Monday’s event, which will begin at noon in the Mashantucket community center at 2 Matt’s Path.
