Anthony Marzi of UConn throws a pitch during Sunday's NCAA Division I baseball tournament regional game against Virginia Tech at Blacksburg, Va. UConn was eliminated with a 3-1 loss.

Blacksburg, Va. - UConn's run through the postseason came to an end Sunday, when the Huskies lost to host Virginia Tech 3-1 in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament regionals.

UConn ends its season at 35-28 after winning the Big East Tournament as the No. 8 seed and advancing to the NCAA tourney for the third time in the last four years.

Virginia Tech, the visiting team in the game, held a 3-1 edge in the ninth but the Huskies didn't go down without a fight. Vinny Siena singled with one out and Bobby Melley followed that with a single though the right side. But the threat ended when Max McDowell grounded into a double play.

Melley, 7-for-14 in the regional, and McDowell each had two hits. Anthony Marzi (5-7) took the loss, allowing one earned run and five hits over 5 1-3 innings.

The team is selected by The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). LeDuc also ran the 5000 meters at the NCAA Championship, finishing 18th in that run with a time of 14:56.11.

On April 5 LeDuc posted what was a school record setting time of 8:54.80 en route to his second place scoring in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Sam Howell Distance Invitational hosted by Princeton University. LeDuc successfully defended his New England Division III crown in the 5000 meters at Colby College May 4, shattering a facility record that had stood for more than two decades with a time of 14:30.03. LeDuc is seeded 18th in the 5000 meter run and will compete for this NCAA Championship in the Badger Sate Saturday night.

In the fall, LeDuc turned in an All-American performance with a 13th place finish in 24:48 at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship hosted by the Rose-Holman Institute of Technology.
