    Local roundup: Montville girls still unbeaten in ECC D-IV play

    Thompson — Montville remained undefeated in Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV play with a 27-24 girls' basketball victory over Tourtellotte on Wednesday night.

    Maya Hillman had 15 rebounds, seven points and six steals and Lauren Velazquez scored nine points and had six steals for the Indians (10-5, 5-0).

    In other games:

    • Charlotte Carney dominated inside as Fitch rolled to a 44-26 road victory over Griswold. Carney scored 16 points and pulled down 24 rebounds for the Falcons (6-8), who moved closer to a state tournament berth, while Nyseanah Ishmael finished with 12 points.

    • Williams School's offense went cold in the second half and lost to Providence Country Day, 31-19. Olivia Kaplan scored 13 for Williams (2-6), which led 16-14 at halftime.

    Boys' basketball

    • Haddam-Killingworth outlasted Wheeler 53-38 in a nonleague game. Ian Spracklin led the Lions (3-8) with 16 points and Bowen Baker scored eight with five assists.

    • Grasso Tech lost to Goodwin Tech 60-32 in a CTC game. Jacob Cortes scored 16 points for Grasso (2-9).

    • Providence Country Day pulled away in the final minutes for a 60-42 win over Williams. Zain Alam scored 20 points for the Blues and Grayson Guinan added 18.

    H.S. wrestling

    • Ledyard recorded eight pins en route to a 63-12 victory over Norwich Free Academy. Juan Garcia (106 pounds), Connor Doran (119), Mason Barnett (145), Jonathan Isgro (152), Caden Foote (160), Tolan Peterson (182), Timothy Door (220) and Davin McIver (285) each won by fall for the Colonels (15-6). Ledyard's Tyler Miller won the best match of the night, edging NFA's Dominic Renfree 4-2 in a matchup of two of the ECC's best at 132. Connor Devega (120) and Christopher Grube (126) earned pins for the Wildcats (12-8).

    • Waterford accepted seven forfeits en route to a 63-14 victory over East Lyme. Eric Zane (138) and Elijah Morsky (195) recorded pins for the Lancers (16-4) and Logan Smith (113) won by technical fall. Evan Highley (285) had a pin for the Vikings (2-10).

    • Griswold, on the strength of seven pins, cruised to a 60-24 win over St. Bernard/Norwich Tech in an ECC Division III match. Xzias Bellamy (120), Logan Starr (126) and Chris Gill (145) recorded pins for the Saints (2-14, 0-3), Gill's coming in just 1:38.

    Women's basketball

    • Lauren Bondi scored 28 points to lead Smith to an 83-59 win over Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Kyra Hartman had 15 points and Emma Puddington and Annabella Farabaugh scored 12 each for Coast Guard (5-13, 4-6).

    College football

    • UConn announced that graduate student running back Art Thompkins and a pair of freshmen, defensive lineman Eric Watts and Jeff Woods, have enrolled for the 2019 spring semester and will be eligible to participate in spring practice from Feb. 12-March 15. Thompkins is a recent graduate of Toledo while Watts (Sumter, S.C.) and Wood (Fayettville, N.C.) graduated from high school early. In addition, linebacker Eli Thomas, who is recovering from a stroke suffered on Oct. 12, has also enrolled in classes, but has not been cleared for football activities.

    H.S. riflery

    • Alexander Potochniak led Grasso Tech to an 844-791 win over Wilcox Tech on Tuesday. Potochniak shot a match-high 176. Also scoring for the Eagles (2-0) were Seth Frates (170), Ciselia Colechia (167), Rick Dunn (166) and Adam Riffe (165).
