    Local college roundup: Coast Guard softball sweeps a doubleheader

    New London — Sarah Kemp and Maggie Perez drove in four runs each as Coast Guard swept St. Joseph of West Hartford in a nonleague softball doubleheader on Tuesday.

    The Bears (18-14) won the opener 7-4 and the second game 14-3 in five innings. Waterford's Claire Hurley scored four runs in the two games and junior Carly Hattman collected three hits, including the 100th of her career. Julia Ferris (10-5) pitched a six-hitter in the opener and Sydney Arendt (8-9) got the win in Game 2.

    In other games:

    • Danielle Rinadli pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and went a combined 3-for-4, including a solo home run, with two RBI as Wesleyan swept Mitchell 6-3 and 8-0 in six innings. In the opener, Suzanne Vachon singled, scored and had an RBI for Mitchell (8-15) and Sydney Oatway had an RBI single. Laurissa Amaker also singled and scored.

    Baseball

    • Mitchell College won its eighth straight game, beating Salve Regina 13-6 in a nonleague game. Dougie DelaCruz of Uncasville had three hits and two RBI and Sam Majewski, Anthony Diaz and Justin Johnson had two hits each for Mitchell (22-6).

    • MIT scored six runs in the fifth inning and rallied for a 10-6 win over Coast Guard in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference game. Tom Ankers had three hits and two RBI and Jeremy Lhotka and Cody Fidler had two hits each for Coast Guard (14-14, 4-10), which left 16 runners on base.

    • UConn led 8-1 after three innings and held on to beat Massachusetts 10-7 in a nonleague game. Christian Fedko had two hits and drove in four runs and Michael Woodworth, Anthony Prato and Chris Winkel had two hits each for UConn (24-13).  

    Men's lacrosse

    • Mitchell College trailed 10-4 at halftime and lost to Dean 18-11 in an NECC game. Former Montville standout Kyle Marsh scored five goals, Jade Shields had three goals and three assists and Ethan LePain had two goals and five assists for Mitchell (3-8, 0-2).
