    Local roundup: Montville girls clinch ECC D-III lacrosse title

    Montville — Mackenzie Ullrich had four goals and two assists as Montville downed Wheeler/Grasso Tech 17-3 to win the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III girls' lacrosse title on Wednesday night.

    Alexis DeLucia had two goals and two assists, Maddie Gould scored three times, and Ashley Rewers had two goals and an assist for the Indians (12-1, 9-0). Lindsey Beavan and Nia Muckenthaler each added a goal and an assist.

    Gracie Anderson, Leigha Dubois and Daniela Roy scored for the Lions (1-8, 1-8).

    In other games:

    • Skylar Gustavsen had two goals and three assists as Bacon Academy beat Ledyard 12-9 in an ECC Division III game. Kaitlin Flynn had five goals, Cassidy Carroll had two goals and an assist, and Maddie Pipech scored twice for Ledyard (3-9, 0-5).

    • Jessica Russo scored the game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining to lift Fitch to a 17-16 non-conference win over Morgan on Tuesday night. Russo finished with four goals for the Falcons (7-3), who qualified for the state tournament, while Maggie O'Leary had five goals and two assists, Madelyn Catlett and Zoe Pearse each scored three goals, Rita Sefransky had two goals and 24 draw controls, Bridget O'Leary had two assists and goalie Molly Bresnahan stopped eight shots.

    • Julia Bates scored four goals and Kristen Healy had three goals and two assists as East Lyme beat Hand 13-12 in a nonleague game on Tuesday night. Maya Rose made nine saves, Abby Mountain and Anna Johnson each scored twice, Maeve Counter had a goal and an assist and Sydney Sager had a goal for East Lyme (9-3).

    Baseball

    • Tom Taber broke a 5-5 tie with a two-out, two-run homer in the fifth inning and Fitch broke things open with an eight-run seventh to defeat Bacon Academy 16-5. Taber had two hits and three RBI for the Falcons (10-6) while Cam McGugan was 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Also, Manish Rane-Castrodad was 3-for-5 with three RBI, Nick Helbig had two hits with a run and three RBI, and Max Grossman pitched 5.2 innings of relief to earn the win.

    • Norwich Free Academy scored six runs in the second inning and held on for an 8-5 win over Darien in non-conference action. Reliever Brenton Trask earned the win while Riley Burke and Vinny Gualtieri each had an RBI hit for the Wildcats (9-7).

    • Grasso Tech lost to Windham Tech 10-5 in a CTC game. Robert Holland was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs scored and Cameron Polen was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Grasso (5-7).

    Boys' lacrosse

    • Shelton scored eight goals in the first quarter before holding off East Lyme 13-12 in a non-conference game. James McCoy led the Vikings (7-6) with four goals and two assists while Robbie Swenson added three goals and three assists, Scottie Galbo had two goals and one assist, and Alec Kosinski and Ben Jakubczak each had one goal and one assist.

    • Lucian Kronholm had three goals and two assists as Stonington defeated Montville 14-2 in an ECC Division II game on Tuesday night. Sean Peglow added three goals and one assist for the Bears (6-5, 3-3) while Derek Debbis and Sean Ventresca each scored a goal for the Indians (1-10, 0-6) and goalie Stevie Turchetta made 17 saves.

    Boys' golf

    • Thomas Creagan earned medalist honors with a 42, leading Old Lyme past Norwich Free Academy, 4-3, in a tri-match played at Norwich Golf Course. Woodstock defeated NFA, 5-2. Woodstock's Mason Stewart had a 43 and NFA's Jackson Guertin and Old Lyme's Peter MacAdam each fired a 44. Team medals points were Woodstock 186, Old Lyme 187 and NFA 188.

    • Fitch beat Griswold 5-2. Drew McCormack, Nishant Patel and Casey Adams won matches for the Falcons (8-2).

    • Waterford split a tri-match against Shoreline Conference teams at Clinton Country Club, beating host Morgan 5.5-1.5 and losing to Coginchaug 5.5-1.5. Nick Hynes, Caroline Petchark and Danny Torres, who shot a 40, won matches for Waterford (5-5-1) against Morgan and Ryan Sadosky (41) halved his match at No. 1. Tyler Woodward of Coginchaug was the medalist with an even-par 36.  

    College honors

    • Coast Guard Academy seniors Tom Hackett and Jack Phillips were named to the All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference first team in doubles. The duo, playing No. 1 for the Bears, went 10-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
