Black Wolves choose Kew, Goodrich with first two picks of NLL Draft

Philadelphia — The New England Black Wolves dipped into the college ranks with their first two picks of the National Lacrosse League Draft on Tuesday night.

The Black Wolves selected forward Andrew Kew with the third overall pick of the draft, the franchise's highest pick since 2011, and added midfielder Zach Goodrich from Towson with the No. 17 kick.

The 6-foot-3 Kew, a native of Oakville, Ontario, had 259 goals and 75 assists during his four seasons at Tampa and was named the All-Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and a first-team All-American by USILA.

He played with the Oakville Rock of the Major Series Lacrosse League in May, leading the team in goals (29) and finished tied for first in assists (28).

"We are extremely excited to add Andrew Kew to our offense," general manager Rich Lisk said in a release. "When we traded for this pick, last year, we targeted offense and Andrew is a premier offensive threat. "We all know Andrew can put the ball in the back of the net, but what separates him from other players is his athleticism and ability to get open, which when you combine that with his shooting ability is special."

The 6-2 Goodrich became Towson's first two-time Division I USILA All-American and was a three-time captain. Goodrich played in 15 games over the summer with the Boston Bombers of the MLL and had 28 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers.
