Local roundup: East Lyme hands Waterford first volleyball loss
East Lyme — Mya Delesdernier had 14 kills and 10 digs as East Lyme handed Waterford its first loss with a 3-1 victory over the Lancers in a high school volleyball match on Wednesday night.
Game scores were 25-20, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-19.
Sophie Dubreuil added 13 kills and 10 digs for the Vikings (1-2) while Arielle Vaglio had eight kills and five aces and Ellie Meredith had 29 assists and six aces.
Ryleigh Gonyo had 22 kills and seven aces for Waterford (3-1) while Briana Muckle had 22 digs and Sabrina Kobyluck had 41 assists.
In other games:
• Norwich Tech picked up its first win of the season, beating Grasso Tech 25-19, 25-10, 25-22 in a Connecticut Technical Conference game. Emma McKenzie had 14 points, five assists, two aces and two kills and Joharys Rivera Perez had 11 points and seven aces for Norwich Tech (1-3, 1-1). Samarie Delgado had three blocks and three kills and Sheryl Caba had 12 points for Grasso (0-3).
• Nora Ryan (10) and Nyseanah Ishmael combined for 18 kills as Fitch beat Ledyard 25-14, 25-11, 24-14. Karly Morales had 15 assists and six aces for Fitch (3-0). Codee Carroll had eight digs, Hannah Avila had 11 assists and McKayla Finkelstein had 12 digs for Ledyard (2-2).
• North Branford rallied to defeat Old Lyme in four games, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-16. Isabel Dean Frazier led the Wildcats with five aces and 11 assists while Maddie Cann added five kills.
• Mackenzie Clark had 21 assists and 11 digs as Montville beat Windham 24-11, 22-25, 28-26, 25-12. Anna Kreitlow had 20 digs, Maya Hillman had 10 kills and five blocks and Rori Curran had 10 kills and three blocks for Montville (2-1).
H.S. boys' soccer
• Waterford beat Haddam-Killingworth 3-0 in a nonleague game. Nikko Zingus, Jeremy Gibbs and Oli Searle scored goals, AJ Sachatello made seven saves and Alex Ard and Colin Palazzo had assists for the Lancers (1-1).
• Aaron Gomez scored three goals, his second hat trick of the season, as St. Thomas More defeated Hoosac 5-1. Pedro Diegues and Daniel Gonzalez each added a goal for the Chancellors.
H.S. girls' soccer
• Skylar Frost and Audrey Matson had two goals and an assist each as Williams School beat Chase Collegiate 8-0. Wendy Fader had a goal and two assists, Sarah Cole had a goal and an assist and Cameron Borden and Maria Angelini had goals for Williams (2-1), which outshot Chase 39-3.
• Kate Carleson and Alyssa Penkaiskas each scored twice as Plainfield beat Montville 5-0. Julia Beaupre made 16 saves for Montville (0-3).
Men's soccer
• Griffin Luczek scored twice to lead Eastern Connecticut State to a 5-1 win over Mitchell College. Julian Cortez scored for Mitchell (1-3-1) with Waterford's Eduardo Tineo assisting. Former NFA standout Seth Strader made six saves for Mitchell and Montville's Lucas Chaude had an assist for ECSU (6-0).
Women's soccer
• Ariel Damary scored twice to lead Mass. Maritime to a 3-1 win over Mitchell College. Hannah Corrigan scored, Madison Nicynski had an assist and Yordi Slover made seven saves for Mitchell (2-3).
College volleyball
• Connecticut College lost to Western Connecticut State, 18-25, 25-23, 10-25, 20-25. Katie Howley had 11 kills, Grace McGee had 25 assists and 10 digs and Dayna McCue had 12 digs for Conn (4-3).
