    Local roundup: Montville rallies for 3-2 volleyball win over Killingly

    Montville — Montville rallied from a 13-11 deficit in the final game by scoring the final four points to pull out a five-game victory over Killingly in a high school volleyball match on Monday night.

    Game scores were 16-25, 25-21, 26-24, 19-25 and 15-13.

    Mackenzie Clark had eight assists and three blocks for the Indians (3-2) while Maria Siismets had 10 digs and Maggie Wainwright had five kills and two digs.

    In other matches:

    • Ledyard outlasted Plainfield 25-21, 25-27, 25-23, 20-25 and 15-8. McKayla Finkelstein finished with 19 digs for the Colonels (4-2) while Hannah Avila added 30 assists and four aces, Kira Kassim had 13 kills and 12 digs, and Kaitlyn Flynn had five aces and 10 digs.

    • Ryleigh Gonyo had 18 kills, including her 100th of the young season, as Waterford defeated Bacon Academy 25-18, 25-14, 25-16. Gonyo also had 11 aces for the Lancers (4-1) while Sabrina Kobyluck added 29 assists and Angelis Colonis had 12 aces.

    • Jess Henrich had 21 assists as Coventry swept East Lyme 25-17, 25-23, 25-17. Nina Sheehan had 10 digs and Shannon Pierce four blocks for East Lyme (1-3).

    • Grasso Tech lost to Windham Tech 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Sherly Caba had 15 digs and eight kills while Samarie Delgado added nine digs, six kills and eight service points for the Eagles.

    Girls' soccer

    • Bella Drummond and Jess English scored two goals apiece while Abby Millbach, Emily Evans and Abby DiRico added one goal each as Ledyard remained unbeaten with a 7-0 win over Griswold in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III match. Goalies Savannah Wahrer and Drummond combined to earn the shutout for the Colonels (4-0, 2-0).

    • Waterford played Plainfield to a 1-1 draw in an ECC Division II match. Bryn Dickinson converted a corner kick form Aimee Girard to give the Lancers (1-2-1, 0-0-2) a 1-0 lead before Kate Carleson's unassisted goal tied it for Plainfield. Goalie McKenzie Gregory made six saves for Waterford, which was outshot 10-7.

    • Vanessa Benjamin scored two goals while Carley Constantine had a goal and two assists during Stonington's 3-2 victory over St. Bernard. Rachel Sabbadini added an assist for the Bears (3-3), who held a 15-9 edge in shots, while Caroline Codner and Lindsay Clement scored the two goals for the Saints (2-2) and Haley Jennings and Adeline Arvidson added assists.

    • Kayla Park scored a pair of goals as Norwich Free Academy earned its first victory with a 4-0 victory over Fitch in an ECC Division I match. Mackenzie Teper and Hannah Daniewicz also scored goals for the Wildcats (1-4, 1-1). Fitch is 2-4, 0-2.

    • Old Lyme remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over Old Saybrook in the Shoreline Conference. Lydia Tinnerello and Kaylee Armenia scored unassisted goals for the Wildcats (4-0, 3-0) and goalie Sam Gray made four saves.

    • Goals by Kate Bowman and Madison Gressley lifted Montville to a 2-0 win over New London in an ECC Division III match. McKinley Bond assisted on Gressley's goal for the Indians (1-4, 1-0), and goalie Julia Beaupre made 11 saves. New London is 2-2, 0-2.

    • Liz Armstrong and Lauren LaCasse scored two goals apiece as Norwich Tech/Holy Family defeated Grasso Tech 6-0 in the CTC. Mara Sked made 17 saves in goal for Grasso.

    • Kaylee Tackson scored a pair of goals as Tourtellotte defeated Wheeler 5-0 in an ECC Division IV match. Addie Hauptmann made 17 saves in goal for the Lions (0-5, 0-2).

    Boys' soccer

    • Eric Leuchner scored in the 41st minute to life Fitch past Montville, 1-0. The Falcons (4-2) outshot Montville, 12-2. Isaiah Gallagher had 11 saves for the Indians (2-2).

    • Ian Spracklin had three goals and an assist and Matt Pierce scored twice to pace Wheeler to its first win, 7-0 over Putnam in an ECC Division IV game. Scott Pion had a goal and an assist, Lucas Jones scored, and Ethan Foberg had an assist for the Lions (1-3, 1-0).

    College field hockey

    • Freshman Abby Marchand scored three goals as Connecticut College defeated Worcester State 4-1 in a non-conference game. Meghan Gazard added a goal and an assist for the Camels (2-4) while Hannah Falvey and Kerri Maron added assists. Goalie Meghan Murray made 13 saves in her first appearance.

    Local Golf

    • East Lyme's Bill Hermanson is tied for first through the first of two rounds of the 74th Connecticut Senior Amateur Championship at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme. Riding a home course advantage, Hermanson shot a 2-over 73, tying Tom Yellin of Stanwich Club for the lead. Hermanson missed only one fairway, hit 15 greens and made one birdie, at the par 4 sixth hole. A five-way tie for second at 74 includes Richard Wilzewski of Shennecossett Golf Course. Tony Susi of Mohegan Sun Golf Club also make the cut for Tuesday's final round, shooting an 80.
