    Local roundup: Sea Unicorns players contribute to East win in FCBL All-Star Game

    New Britain — Kaelen Culpepper (Kansas State) had two hits, including an RBI single in the ninth inning, and Tre Cobb (Hartford) had an RBI single in the fifth in the East team's 10-2 victory over the West in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game on Tuesday.

    Culpepper and Cobb were two of seven players representing the Norwich Sea Unicorns, including Mitchell College standouts Hunter Yaworski, who started the game at designated hitter, and Kenny Heon.

    Nashua center fielder Logan Ott (Maryland) was named Most Valuable Player, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles and a walk, and Worcester's Jack Choate (Assumption) was Most Outstanding Pitcher.

    Cobb was the runner-up in Monday night's Home Run Derby.

    State Babe Ruth (15)

    • Winning pitcher Derrel Mitchel had a double, a home run and four RBI as New London/Montville edged Milford, 8-7. Chris Tanucci singled for New London, which will play Naugatuck in the loser's bracket final on Thursday at Law High School of Milford (5:30 p.m.) The winner will face Waterford in Friday's final at the same site.

    NECBL

    • Brendan Cumming (Princeton) went 4-for-4, including three doubles, with two runs and two RBI as the Mystic Schooners beat the Newport Gulls 11-7 in a six-inning game. Jimmy Sullivan (Virginia) had two hits, including a two-home run, and scored twice for Mystic (13-12) and Waterford's Jared Burrows (Hartford) earned the save. Matthew Wood (Penn State) went 3-for-4, including two doubles, with two runs and an RBI for the Gulls (16-10).

    American Legion Zone 6

    • Winning pitcher Brenton Trask allowed two runs over 5.2 innings, struck out four and also singled and scored as Norwich beat Tri-Town 4-2 Tuesday night,  its fourth win in five games. Anthony Sanchez had a single, run and an RBI and Dan Eggler pitched the final 1.3 innings to earn the save for Norwich. Austin Drabinski also singled. Mason Barber doubled and scored for Tri-Town.

    District 10 baseball (10-12)

    • Chase Malbaurn allowed two hits over four innings with nine strikeouts and hit two home runs with five RBI to lead Montville past New London on Tuesday night 8-3. Cooper Browne and Jeremy Parkos each had multiple hits for Montville. Zeke Johnson had an RBI for New London and Juan Santiago-Droz and Gavin MacGaha both had multiple hits.
