    Local roundup: CGA grad Barnes competing in sailing at Tokyo Olympics

    Coast Guard Academy graduate Nikki Barnes is competing in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, racing in women's W470 sailing.

    Barnes, who graduated in 2017, is the helm and Lara Dallman-Weiss is the crew. The duo has completed two of their 10 races. Their third race begins on Friday at 11 p.m. They are currently in 10th place.

    During her time at Coast Guard, Barnes help lead the women's sailing team to a national championship win, while earning the Quantum Women's Sailor of the Year award, 2017 Sportsman of the Year award, and All-American honors three times.

    Barnes is an active-duty member of the Coast Guard, currently attached to Sector Miami. She has been granted a Support Allowance Billet which allows her to train full time until the end of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

    •Korey Morton (UConn) went 4-for-4, including a double, with three runs and three RBI as the Norwich Sea Unicorns thumped the New Britain Bees, 12-0, in a game called after six innings. Jordan Marot (Franklin Pierce) pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks for Norwich (25-29) while Brooklyn’s Hunter Yaworski (Mitchell) had two hits, including a double, with three RBI and a run.

    Little League

    • The Connecticut Little League baseball tournaments in Stamford were postponed and rescheduled for Friday. In the ages 10-12 tournament, Waterford's elimination game against Wilton will begin at 5:30 p.m. East Lyme's opener in the ages 8-10 tourney against South Windsor will start at 7:30 p.m. 

    Zone 6 Legion

    • Norwich beat Willimantic 4-2 on Wednesday night. Starter Jake Crowley got the win, allowing three hits over four innings with seven strikeouts. Jason Hicks Jr. allowed three hits over three innings for the save. Will Wolfe doubled for Norwich (13-7).

    ECML

    • The Sonics stayed in first place by beating Three Rivers 7-0 on Wednesday night. Tim Flynn, Seth Minter and Saxon Herbert had two hits each and Flynn scored twice for the Sonics. Axel De Jesus allowed two hits over four innings with seven strikeouts for the win and Bryan Carambot allowed one hit over the final three innings for the save. Clancy Susi singled and doubled for three hits.
