Local roundup: Give the assist to Tursky as Coast Guard volleyball tops WPI
New London — Noelle Tursky had a match-high 23 assists, 14 digs and seven aces to lead Coast Guard to a 25-14, 25-20, 25-21 win over WPI in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday.
Amanda Dake had 12 digs, 10 kills and four aces for Coast Guard (16-6, 7-2) and Mary Sweet had a team-high four blocks.
Catherine Reynolds had 22 assists and 10 digs for the Engineers (17-6, 3-6) and Amanda Wetmore added 11 kills and eight digs.
• Abby Speckhals had 13 assists and six aces as Old Lyme swept Wheeler, 25-16, 25-13, 25-22. Melanie Warren had seven aces and six kills for Old Lyme (11-8) and Abby Sicuranza had eight kills. Wheeler is 4-14.
• Jake Creus scored at 41:26 and Conn College made the goal hold up in its 1-0 win over Wesleyan in an New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Dylan Zane and Luke Cibelli assisted on the goal and Sam Maidenburg added seven saves for Conn (12-3-0, 8-2-0). The Cardinals are 10-3-2, 5-3-2.
• Old Lyme’s Mya Johnson scored as Conn College and Wesleyan played to a 1-all tie. Johnson scored at 75:32 on Marielle McEnaney’s free kick into the box. Audrey Lavey tied the game at 76:18 for the Cardinals (12-1-1, 8-1-1). Sarah Hall had six saves for the Camels (9-3-3, 5-3-2).
