PEAPOD INITIATIVE BENEFITS LOCAL FOOD BANKS

Peapod, the online grocery service, has launched its Holiday Turkey Bowling - Strike Out Hunger initiative. When visiting Peapod.com, customers will have the chance to choose a turkey to be bowled for charity down a virtual bowling alley. For every turkey bowled, Peapod will donate $1 (up to $15,000) to local food banks in its delivery areas. Through a mix of digital programs like Holiday Turkey Bowling and on-the-ground grassroots events, Peapod expects to donate more than $62,000 in 2012 to fight hunger in its delivery areas, including Connecticut and Rhode Island. "We enjoy working with our local Peapod partners because they always bring creative ideas to raise both funds and awareness for the need to support regional food banks," said Heather Burns of the Thomaston Food Pantry in Thomaston.
