    Dominion announces scholarship winner

Laura Kastner of is one of six winners of the Dominion Memorial Scholarship Program, the company announced Friday.

Dominion is the owner of the Millstone Nuclear Power Station in Waterford.

Kastner will receive up to $5,000 for the 2013-14 academic year. The scholarship is renewable for an additional three years.

Now in its seventh year, the scholarship fund was established in memory of Matthew Gwaltney, Rachael Hill and Nicole White – students with close ties to Dominion who were killed in the April 16, 2007, shootings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. The scholarships are awarded to the children or grandchildren of Dominion employees. Kastner is the daughter of Robert Kastner, a nuclear operations supervisor at Millstone Power Station.

“Judges based the selection on academic performance, community service and leadership,” said David Christian, chief executive officer of Dominion Generation. “Matthew, Rachael and Nicole were known for these traits. We are confident Laura will honor their memories through her continued success.”

Kastner was selected from among 200 applicants from 12 states.
