    The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT will host a workshop on Wednesday, June 14, from noon-1 p.m. on “Web Conversions to Capture Your Audience.” This workshop will be held at the Chamber’s office at 914 Hartford Turnpike, 2nd floor in Waterford. Marketing experts from Miranda Creative, Inc. will show how your company can reach its business goals by engaging clients via email, social media, and the web.     GRAND OPENINGS

    The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT's Leadership Program Class of 2018 will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony celebrating renovated spaces at Norwich's Madonna Place on Wednesday, June 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at 240 Main St. The Leadership Class of 2018 recently completed a top-to-bottom refresh of the kitchen and family spaces used by Madonna Place clients. A ceremonial ribbon will be cut at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Admission is free and open to the public with no RSVP necessary.     HONORS

    Lucas Landherr, Ph.D., Associate Teaching Professor at Northeastern University’s College of Engineering, has received the 2016 Outstanding Teacher Award from the Northeast section of the American Society for Engineering. At the end of April, the Stoneham resident was honored during the ASEE Annual Awards Banquet Program held at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

    In addition to his work in the classroom, Landherr, a native of Preston, has authored science comic books as a way to help students grasp challenging engineering concepts and performed a stand-up comedy production during the University’s Chemical Engineering Day.

    Chelsea Groton Bank recently recognized eight employees for outstanding contributions to the bank and community: Alyssa Bryan, Senior Direct Banking and eCommerce Representative; Megan Foster, Assistant Branch Manager at the Bank’s Center Groton branch; Kimberly Friend, Marketing Design & Communications Specialist; Tom Gouin, Senior Teller at the Bank’s Sprague branch; Alyssa Kumpf, Accounting Assistant; and Elizabeth Owen, Credit Analyst were presented with the Chelsea Award. The George Strouse “Spirit” Award was presented to Beth Glynn, AVP, Retail Loan Originator, and Alex Masse, VP, Business Banking Manager.

    The Chelsea Award is presented each year to individuals with exceptional performance in the areas of sales, initiative and customer service. The “Spirit” Award pays tribute to George Strouse, former Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Trustees. This award is presented annually to employees who embody, and consistently demonstrate, the values and spirit of Chelsea Groton Bank through leadership, attitude and community service.

    United Community & Family Services is accepting nominations for the 2017 Palmer Davies Leadership Award, which recognizes an outstanding leader in the community who has improved the health and well-being of the community or region through advocacy, leadership and by fostering a community spirit that reflects the mission and values of UCFS.

    GIVING

    The Chelsea Groton Foundation of Norwich has awarded $3,000 to The Arc New London County’s vocational/employment program for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Funds will be used to offset costs of purchasing a commercial bakery oven for the agency’s Culinary Arts program. The Arc’s “Classic Crunch” cookies are sold at ShopRite New London and Norwich, Mohegan Sun Employee Store and Service Station, Thames Valley Alternative Relief Center, Ledyard Village Market, Muddy Waters Café, Connecticut College Student Café, Fiddleheads Food Co-Op, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Lobby Shop, and Flander’s Fish Market & Restaurant in Niantic. 

    The second annual "Liberty Lends a Hand" campaign encourages Liberty Bank’s nearly 700 employees to volunteer for community service projects or to collect items requested by nonprofits. It also invites community organizations to contact the bank if they are seeking volunteers for a specific project.

    Last year, bank employees volunteered for projects such as: landscaping for Habitat for Humanity; painting the Boys and Girls Club of Waterbury; cooking a barbecue for veterans in New Haven; and a makeover of the High Hopes Therapeutic Riding stables for a gala fundraiser in Old Lyme.

    Liberty Bank offers every employee four full paid days off for community service each year. During 2016, about one-half of Liberty’s employees volunteered a total of nearly 14,000 hours of their time to help 291 nonprofit organizations.
