    Henry and Evelyn Peyton

    Henry and Evelyn Peyton

The children of Henry and Evelyn Peyton of Mystic are pleased to announce that their parents are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. The Peytons were married at the Williamsburg Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Va., on May 19, 1951.

Henry and Evelyn are the parents of Tom Bigda-Peyton (Frances) of Bedford, Mass., Bill Peyton of Norwood, Mass., and Ellen Glaessner (Phil) of Chatham, N.J. They are the grandparents of much-loved grandchildren, Joe (Lindsay), Hope, and Sam Bigda-Peyton, Daniel and Stephen Peyton, and Phil Glaessner.

Henry and Evelyn enjoyed long and varied careers: Henry served our country as an officer in the U.S. Navy and later worked as an engineer for private companies. Evelyn raised their children, and was a volunteer administrator in Connecticut and Texas, and a social worker at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

The success of our parents’ marriage is best measured by their devotion to each other and how they helped others. They are long-standing members of St. James’ Episcopal Church, New London, where Henry served on the vestry, and Evelyn was a member of the Altar Guild. Evelyn was an active volunteer throughout her life, focusing on social services and the arts. We, their children and grandchildren, are the beneficiaries of their hard work, wisdom, patience, and love.
