New London — The makeshift food pantry at the Coast Guard Academy helping those impacted by the government shutdown, which has dragged on for more than 30 days, will be open through Friday.

The pantry, located in the auditorium of  the academy's Leamy Hall, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thousands of people have visited the pantry, now in its second week.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., is expected to visit the pantry on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. to drop off donations, thank volunteers and talk with Coast Guard families affected by the shutdown.
