Norwich - The Richard Hourigan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 594 and the Norwich Area Veterans Council are sponsoring a Veterans Day appreciation program starting at 1 p.m. Nov. 11 at the post, located at 30 Connecticut Ave. 

The guest speaker is retired Brig. Gen. Ron Welch, who served in the U.S. Army and the Connecticut Army National Guard for nearly 40 years. He is the vice president for military services and economic development at the Veterans Rally Point, which is part of Easterseals Capital Region and Eastern Connecticut located in Norwich. 

Additional speakers will include federal, state and local elected officials. The event is open to the public. For more information, call the post at (860) 892-1400.
