New London — The Coast Guard barque Eagle announced this year’s training schedule, which includes a role in the celebration for the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key’s writing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Eagle will sail to the Caribbean, along the East Coast and to Canada.

In late March, Eagle will sail to North Carolina and stop in Morehead City, N.C., with officer candidates for the Coast Guard and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.

Eagle will return to New London in early April, then leave for the annual summer deployment in May to train about 600 Coast Guard Academy cadets. Eagle plans to moor at City Pier in April and will be open for daily tours.

Eagle is scheduled to visit the following ports: San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 21 to 24; Oranjestad, Aruba, May 28 to 31; Cozumel, Mexico, June 7 to 10; Miami, Fla., June 14 to 17; Sydney, Canada, June 28 to July 1; St. John’s, Canada, July 4 to 7; New York City, N.Y., July 18 to 21; Bourne, Mass., July 24 to 28; and Rockland, Maine, Aug. 1 to 4, before returning to City Pier in early August.

In late August, Eagle will sail to Yorktown, Va., and then to Baltimore with the fall officer candidate classes. In Baltimore, from Sept. 11 to 15, Eagle will take part in the anniversary celebration before going to the Coast Guard Yard for extensive maintenance work to extend the barque’s service life. The barque will remain in the yard until the spring of 2015, when it returns to New London for the 2015 training program.
