Book Club

The joys in “Book Club” are all about spending time with Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, Jane Fonda and Mary Steenburgen. Seeing these ladies of a certain age is an all-too-rare pleasure in a world where Hollywood honchos are forever distracted by young, shiny objects. “Book Club” might not have the best screenplay — it’s essentially about these women getting their sexual groove back — but director Bill Holderman (who co-wrote the script with Erin Simms) and his sterling cast play it in just the right way — never cutesy, never straining to be over-the-top. The four stars have such engaging, natural chemistry that you can’t help but hope that they reconnect on a future project.
