A view inside Vietnam: Rolf Jensen films
"Street Vendors" is the collective name given to three short films made by Rolf Jensen, a professor of ecomomics at Connecticut College in New London. The works explore a form of migration in Vietnam wherein rural women leave their families to spend weeks at a time in Hanoi as roving vendors.
Jensen, who frequently accompanies students to Vietnam as part of the college's SATA program (Study Away/Teach Away), made the films for the Vietnam Women's Museum in Hanoi. The films illustrate the resolve of thousands who balance familial obligations with the Hanoi trips - which provide money for survival.
"Street Vendors" will be shown Monday in the college's Charles E. Shain Library. Jensen will be on hand to answer questions.
