Dodgy weather won't stop I AM Festival

The I AM music festival is underway downtown, regardless of the unsettled weather.

It is the sixth installment of the city’s unique independent rock music event and will be in full swing until 11 p.m. tonight.

With a strong breeze coming off the Thames River onto the Parade Plaza, DJ Frank Lo of Nu Lo Order, a new local hip hop act, was overseeing the installation of a plastic shield that would prevent his CDs from blowing away. Event organizers and co-founders Rick Martin and Sean Murray were managing the last-minute adjustment as the band members warmed up. They expect attendance to increase throughout the day.

“It looks pretty good already,” Martin said of the patient, growing crowd.

Local and national acts are on the bill and will be playing at the Parade, Telegraph, Hygienic Art Park and Oasis Pub.

In front of the Telegraph record store, where Haunt the House is playing, Chip McCabe from New Britain said he is here for the “awesome amount of local talent” that would be on display and isn’t worried about the threat of rain.

“It’s warm enough out that if you get rained on it’s not too bad,” McCabe said.
