Music tip: "Searching for Sugar Man"

    Rodriguez

When my iPod was stolen last week, I regretted telling so many people how much I was enjoying the downloaded soundtrack from the movie "Searching for Sugar Man." Someone, I figure, wanted to hear it so badly they turned into a thief. Well, don't steal an iPod, but you should buy this music. Out of Detroit, Rodriguez had a couple of unsuccessful albums in the '70s, which doesn't make him unique. But, unbeknownst to him, he had become the voice of the anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa. In style and lyrics, he recalls Dylan in his prime. The music, I'm guessing, is much more powerful if you've seen the wonderfully inspirational movie, but regardless the writing is a mark above. The 70-year-old is now touring, enjoying the success that somehow avoided him for decades.
