Pop-rock giants Imagine Dragons ring in New Year at Foxwoods

In the expanding field of Mormon-infused pop-rock, is it possible that two huge acts — The Killers and Imagine Dragons — are not as good as an almost completely unknown band called Checkpoint Charley?

    Yes.

Checkpoint Charley is arguably cooler than The Killers or Imagine Dragons (give a listen to CC tunes "Bellyfish," "Mother Veronica," "Free" or "Cardiac Arrest" if you don't believe me).

The problem is, Checkpoint is on a quasi-hiatus and never went anywhere, anyway. And The Killers seem to be just one career option for frontman Brandon Flowers.

That leaves Imagine Dragons — but no worries, ID fans! They're kicking significant ass with their two multi-platinum albums and their Grammy trophy and drawing power that means they can ask up to $275 for tickets to their New Year's Eve show tonight in the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. With luck, you'll still have enough money for a T-shirt.

Ms Mr opens the show and, no, they won't play any Mr. Mister. At least we don't think so.

Imagine Dragons, 10 tonight, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $95-$275; 1-800-200-2882.
