Magpie, Geoff Kaufman co-headline Friday Night Folk

Magpie, from left: Greg Artzner and Terry Leonino. (submitted)

Magpies are interesting birds indigenous to the American West, and no less than Lewis & Clark described them as bold and fearless and capable of flying into explorers’ tents to steal goodies.

“Bold” and “fearless” are indeed fine descriptive terms for Terry Leonino and Greg Artzner — a folk music duo called Magpie. You can throw in “melodic,” “harmony-spangled,” “socially conscious” and “instrumentally adept” — plus it should be pointed out that they’ve never been known to break into explorers’ tents.

Magpie, who formed in Kent, Ohio, and lived in Washington, D.C., for years before relocating to upstate New York, will share the stage with local favorite Geoff Kaufman for the latest presentation in the Friday Night Folk series. As always, the concert will take place in Unity Hall at New London’s All Souls UU Congregation.

Friday Night Folk, 7 p.m. Friday, Unity Hall, All Souls UU Congregation, 19 Jay St., New London; $17 advance, $20 door, $10 students and military with ID; fridaynightfolk.org.
