'The Treasure of Christmas Island' panto to be performed at Norwich Arts Center
Norwich Art Center presents “The Treasure of Christmas Island: A Panto” from Dec. 13 to 22 in its Donald L. Oat Theater, 60-64 Broadway, Norwich.
Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
A press release explains that panto, a holiday tradition in Great Britain for more than 200 years, is "a farce based on a kids' tale for both adults and children, broad characters, current and local references, audience participation, songs, the 'dame' (played by a gent), jokes for kids, jokes for adults, merry mayhem and zero ponderous content, and maybe an animal or magic creature or two. Everything is OTT: Over The Top. As such, it’s perfect for a child’s first theater experience, and great for adults who just want to have a good time."
“The Treasure of Christmas Island: A Panto” is a tale of pirates and loot, and it was penned by local actor/playwright and panto veteran James Kenney, who also plays a major role in the show.
Tickets are $8 for children 12 and under, $15 for NAC members, $18 for seniors, students and military, and $20 for adults. Visit www.norwicharts.org.
