Josh Groban sings Sunday at Mohegan Sun

I know that Josh Groban is a great singer, but I developed a new appreciation for him when I saw him on Broadway in “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812” in 2017.

He played an unhappy, middle-aged Russian in the wildly inventive musical inspired by a part of “War and Peace.” With a faux paunch, Groban assayed the role of someone bedeviled by life regrets. He also played piano and the accordion during the show.

Groban is back to his “day” job as an arena-filling singer. He’ll perform in concert Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The other thing about Groban: he’s very funny. Here’s hoping he doesn’t skimp on witty chatter between numbers.

Josh Groban, 7 p.m. Sunday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $49-$79; mohegansun.com.
