For a generation of us, “yacht rock” isn’t just a spoof. No, sirree, it represents the AM hits of our middle-school years, heard on a transistor radio or on Casey Kasem’s “American Top 40.”

    Those were the days!

And, like pretty much all pop-culture things, yacht rock has come back around to popularity … well, at least enough to have a group name themselves Yacht Rock Gold Experience. That very group is playing the Kate on Saturday, busting out a whole array of 1970s and ’80s “soft rock favorites.”

It’s a big band, including four lead singers and a five-piece rhythm section, and their setlists have included “Ride Like the Wind,” “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl),” “What a Fool Believes,” “One of These Nights” and all sorts of other iconic songs of the era.

Yacht Rock Gold Experience, 8 p.m. Saturday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $48; (860) 510-0453.
