Schwarzenegger in stable condition after emergency heart surgery

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was in stable condition Friday after undergoing emergency open-heart surgery, sources said.

Citing sources connected to Schwarzenegger, TMZ reported news of the surgery Friday morning.

The surgery was required after complications developed with a catheter valve replacement.

Schwarzenegger’s spokesman, Daniel Ketchell, told the Times he was in stable condition and that more information would be released later Friday.

Schwarzenegger interrupted his career as an action movie star to serve as governor from 2003 to 2011.

Schwarzenegger, 70, had elective heart surgery in 1997 to replace an aortic valve.

Schwarzenegger has kept an active political life since leaving office. Last week he appeared with Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former California Assembly Republican leader Chad Mayes in Boyle Heights to promote a centrist GOP advocacy group called New Way California.
