Mystic - The railroad bridge spanning the Mystic River is out of service for marine traffic due a mechanical failure, according to an Amtrak spokesman.

The problem, first reported on Tuesday, prevents the bridge from opening and closing.

Amtrak crews are awaiting delivery of a replacement part and hope to have repairs completed by the end of the week, according to Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole.
