    New pathway offered at NLPS

New London Public schools is excited to announce the commencement of its third magnet school pathway.

In the fall of 2017, C.B. Jennings Elementary School will kick off the Dual Language and International Education (DLIE) Magnet School. C.B. Jennings Dual Language and International Education Magnet Elementary School will offer students and families exciting international experiences, to include a focus on global and cultural awareness and various language learning opportunities, including Spanish, French, and more. Applications for Kindergarten and Grade 1 will be accepted through April 3, 2017. Students attending the Dual Language and International Education Magnet Pathway will become the future students and graduates of New London’s 6-12 Dual Language & International Magnet School.

The Dual Language and International Education pathway consists of five major components: inquiry-based learning, dual language immersion and language learning, character education, equity, and multicultural and international education. The C.B. Jennings Dual Language and International Education Magnet Elementary School is the K-5 portion of New London’s K-12 Dual Language & International Education Magnet Pathway and is seeking candidacy as an International Baccalaureate World School. As such, the school will marry its existing dual language approach with international education, and, together, language learning and global-mindedness will be the overarching theme of this magnet school. New London Public Schools and the C.B. Jennings School are committed to developing students who are and/or will become bilingual and internationally-minded learners and change agents in our global society.

C.B. Jennings School joins Nathan Hale Arts Magnet Elementary School and Winthrop STEM Magnet Elementary School as the foundation for a child’s magnet pathway to success. As of fall 2017, New London Public Schools will cement three magnet pathways for personalized student learning — STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), Visual and Performing Arts, and Dual Language and International Education. The Future Leadership pathway, in direct partnership with the United States Coast Guard, will be New London Public Schools’ fourth magnet pathway in Connecticut’s first all-magnet school district and is scheduled to embark on its inaugural year in the fall of 2018.

New London Public Schools serves as an educational center for students from over 30 Connecticut communities, and following are just a few highlights from magnificent magnet schools that provide choice, diversity, and high quality educational programming:

The faculty and staff are not only educators, they are experienced dancers, musicians, artists, and actors who are eager to share their experiences.

At Winthrop STEM Magnet Elementary School, the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math focus is a great match for students who benefit from a hands-on inquiry process that allows them to take the lead in their learning.
