Dime Bank: 'They know what you need and they get things done'

Frank Labriola, left, and Paul Doyle are the co-owners of the popular Paddy's Beach Club in Misquamicut, R.I.

“We first looked at Paddy’s Beach Club on the coldest day of the year, but we had a vision. We believed in this excellent location and that we could make it work,” said Frank Labriola, who with Paul Doyle co-owns Paddy’s Beach Club in Misquamicut, Rhode Island. “But, to make it work, we needed partners and Dime Bank became that partner.”

Paddy’s Beach Club is true to its advertising claim — offering “an amazing beachfront location that’s so close, it’s hard not to get sandy and wet.” With award-winning specialty drinks, live entertainment and creative oceanfront dining you can enjoy with toes in the sand, it’s no wonder that Coastal Magazine recently ranked this Rhode Island Landmark among the top ten beach bars, nationwide.

Between foam parties, cabana rentals and service at “Tiki Beach,” Frank and Paul don’t have time to worry about the reliability of their bank. “We turn to Dime for our day-to-day operations,” Paul explained. “We run everything through Dime — business checking, payroll, lines of credit for large purchases, and we turned to Dime after Hurricane Sandy.”

The deadliest and most destructive hurricane in the 2012 season, superstorm Sandy devastated Misquamicut, leaving the beach community nearly unrecognizable. The tidal rush piled up to six feet of sand on Atlantic Avenue, where little more than the foundation of this once-thriving bar, remained.

“Sandy knocked us down pretty good,” Frank said. “Dime worked with us, patiently, as we were waiting on federal funds to come in. They were a great bridge to help us go from being knocked down and closed in November, to being rebuilt and open the following May.”

Today, Paddy’s strikes a balance between being a kid/family-friendly venue on weekdays, and a popular live-entertainment beach bar on the weekend. This flexible business model, appreciates a bank that is flexible, as well. “Dime is a bank, they dot their ‘I’s and cross their ‘T’s… but at the same time they will work with a business owner and be flexible,” Frank said. “But, that flexibility is part of a relationship — that’s the only way it can work for both the business and the bank.”

During the peak of the summer season, Frank and Paul can expect to put in 20-hour days working both the front and back of the house. These two entrepreneurs and close friends have survived everything from hurricanes to partner buy-outs. They expect a bank that will work equally hard at providing review-worthy service.

“Whether a business owner or person, you need to be able to walk into a bank… say ‘hi’ to someone and know that what banking you need will get done,” Paul said. “At Dime, they not only know who you are, they know what you need and they get things done.”
