Book Review: Every Day Matters 2018 Diary

Each year, New Year’s Day rolls around like a bossy jerk, suggesting that it’s high time we make some resolutions and begin the arduous and decidedly unfun process of improving our considerable flaws. One moment, we are happily careening through the indulgence and abundance of the holiday season and then suddenly, it’s all over. The cookies are all eaten, the lights and finery are shoved back into the garage and we are left to wrest the motivation to clean up our act during the coldest, darkest, bleakest, dankest months of the year.

This year, instead of making a list of your guilt-inducing flaws, maybe try giving your internal landscape some well-deserved cultivation with the Every Day Matters 2018 Diary, compiled by author and graphic artist Dani DiPirro. This unusual – and quite beautiful – planner is cleanly and brightly laid out, with colorful but simple artwork, weekly and monthly calendar pages and thought-provoking themes: openness, imagination, awareness, gratitude, passion, perspective, friendship, patience, connection, focus, compassion and transformation.

Designed as a resource for enriching daily life, this holistic planner will guide you on a journey of awareness and fulfilment as you go about your day. The tone is decidedly NOT preachy or prescribing. The bent toward mindfulness consists of small suggestions and delightful quotes from recognized authors, philosophers, artists and humanitarians. (It’s also the perfect companion to a winter morning cup of tea and completely reconcilable with our New England love of soft, heavy quilts, thick stews, weekend naps and other cold weather comforts.)

Author Dani Di Pirro has written a wide variety of books with the intention of helping people around the world live more positive, mindful, and fulfilled lives, including: "The Positively Present Guide to Life", and the "Effortless Inspiration" series, featuring the books "Gratitude", "Living in the Moment", "Compassion", and "Forgiveness". DiPirro and her work have been featured in a variety of media, including Glamour, The Washington Post Express, Forbes, The Huffington Post, The Globe and Mail, and The Happiness Project.
