Bertha Carlson, 103, of Mungertown Rd., Madison, died on May 31. She was born in Germany on April 28, 1908 and immigrated to the U.S. in the 1920s. She was the wife of the late Carl Carlson. Bertha initially worked as a cook for the president of Yale University and later operated an orchard adjacent to her property on Mungertown Road. Bertha had many friends in the surrounding area and was active in the Madison Senior Center.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Clara Munzenmaier, formerly of East Haven.  

Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, until the time of service at 10 a.m. at the Madison Lutheran Church, 9 Britton Lane, Madison. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Madison.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Madison Senior Center, 26 Meetinghouse Lane, Madison, CT 06443. The Swan Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements.
